Higher deficit budget for Pahang

KUANTAN: The state is expected to spend RM560.47mil next year against its projected revenue of RM461.86mil.

In tabling the RM98.61mil deficit budget yesterday, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said the revenue is forecast to be RM5.18mil lower than this year’s earnings of RM467.04mil.
He, however, said the deficit for the 2009 budget was an increase of RM48.25mil from this year’s deficit of RM50.36mil.

“The increase in expenditure for 2009 is to sustain the salary increment and allowance of state civil servants as well as to continue with efforts to step up efficiency in the public delivery system.

“The increase is also because of the hike in electricity tariff and fuel,” he said, when proposing an allocation of RM560.47mil for management expenditure and RM364.40mil for development cost.

On the corporatisation of the water supply department, Adnan said it was necessary as it would help beef up the water supply system while increasing earnings.

He also said the state had worked hard to invest in the information, communication and technology sector via its wholly-owned company, Pahang Technology Resources. The company was trying to secure a share of the High Speed Broadband project.

He hoped the Federal Government would help make it a reality
